Slather on the sunblock and jump in the drink

Big Talbot Island State Park

We all know the frustration of barely being able to find a spot to spread out a towel and soak up the rays over a long holiday weekend. At Big Talbot Island, get away from the crowd at public access beaches and spend Memorial Day weekend fishing, boating or tanning. If you're living the high life and have a boat of your own, enjoy Talbot via the Intracoastal Waterway, the Nassau Sound or, if you can get to shore, the Atlantic Ocean. There are also plenty of places for glamorous photo ops, such as Bone Yard Beach, full of eroded bluffs, driftwood and withering trees.

St. Augustine Beach

Growing up in Jacksonville means you're intimately familiar with the beach closest to your home, recognize the shapes sand dunes make and always cherish the salty memories made there. However, there are so many more beaches just as exciting and welcoming as your backyard spot. If you're seeking a different view, a unique scene and some variation from the dark green sea water, check out the beach access in St. Johns County that stretches from Vilano Beach all the way to Crescent Beach. Whether you want to visit undeveloped Anastasia State Park or park your car on the shoreline at St. Augustine Beach, there's sure to be an option for you.

If you love feeling pampered and want to enjoy some eye-candy, Fort George Island will not fail you. This state park and inlet is used for boating, drinking and cozying up to new strangers who may not be so strange at day's end. Memorial Day is an ideal time to pull your boat up to the inlet, enjoy the warm waters and crack open a beer, whether you're sitting back on your schooner, floating in the lapping waves or sunbathing on a sandbar.
