Natural Born Killer

Long ago, before the dawn of man, ’twas born an ancient race of metal gods called Iron Maiden. And for a few brief years, when the group was honing its sound and scaling Mount Metal, vocalist Paul Di’anno was at the helm, guiding the fearless band of Brits through their first two albums, “Iron Maiden” and “Killers.” Since parting ways with his comrades in 1981, Di’anno has performed with various projects — Gogmagog, Di’Anno’s Battlezone and Praying Mantis — sporting a bald pate while maintaining his gritty growl. For some, he is still the only Iron Maiden vocalist. Alive & Well

Fans of The Grateful Dead will no doubt be familiar with Relix Magazine. First established by Dead fan Les Kippel in 1974, Relix covered Garcia and the boys, along with other jam and outsider bands. By 1980, fellow Deadhead Toni Brown had joined the staff, eventually becoming owner, publisher and editorial director. Since the magazine was sold in 2000, Brown has focused on her own musical career. She joins local Dead tribute band The Glass Camels on Saturday, Feb. 6 at LandShark Café, 1728 Third St. N., Jacksonville Beach.
