PDU Wednesdays: How to Overcome Resistance to Change
This is a three-hour, three-PDU evening workshop with both lecture and interactive segments. It is targeted to the individual leader responsible for driving, leading and managing people to implement or enforce business change (i.e. a new product, a change in policies and procedures, new or changed systems and technologies, a new business direction, etc.).
What to Expect
As a project manager, you are in a constant state of change in your organization. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote:
"There is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than to initiate a new order of things. This arises partly from the incredulity of mankind, who do not believe in anything new until they have had actual experience of it."
You will meet resistance from your team and constituents during a change. You will meet resistance by the people impacted by the change. When these individuals and groups of people resist change, change is harder, slower and riskier.
Understand resistance to change and learn a handful of simple, but powerful, tactics to help resisters become comfortable. They will either get on board, or get out of your way.
You Will Learn
•Know how to recognize resistance in its various formats
•Understand why people resist change
•Discover the human needs you must address to overcome resistance
•Learn techniques to overcome resistance to change and when to apply each
•Gain hands-on experience with this new information via an in-class exercise
•Analyze resistance and develop a strategy and action steps to resolve resistance
