Community First Credit Union’s monthly Community First Saturdays event at the Northbank Riverwalk always draws crowds with its food trucks and family-friendly river atmosphere. With a large-scale beer sampling, live music, a JTA Skyway Express scavenger hunt, river-side tai chi, a San Marco bicycle tour and sunny warm weather added to the mix, the April 6 event was especially hopping.

Hundreds came out to sample from more than 30 different beers, many brewed in Northeast Florida, for the second annual Jax Beer Week Grand Tasting. A $2 ticket bought guests a 4-ounce sample, or they could choose a full 12-ounce brew for $4.

Jacksonville-based bands Canary in the Coalmine, RickoLus and Four Families each played live sets for a makeshift beer garden audience, seated on the lawn behind the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.

Food trucks lined nearby Pearl Street, serving up everything from specialty coffee, cupcakes and shaved ice to pizza, tacos and fried mac ’n’ cheese.

Special events are announced for each month’s Community First Saturday on the event Facebook page and blog.
