Brickbats to Crowne Plaza Hotel in Downtown Jacksonville for refusing to go along with improvements to Southbank Riverwalk, which is badly in need of repair. Jim Robinson, the city’s director of Public Works, said hotel officials have refused to agree to allow the city’s contractor to upgrade the Riverwalk because they fear it'll be too noisy, disrupt guests and hurt business. Robinson said the $15 million refurbishment of the Riverwalk, from the School Board building to Friendship Fountain, begins soon. The entire Riverwalk, except for the section adjacent to Crowne Plaza, is to be resurfaced with concrete. Wooden planking will be replaced outside the hotel.
